April Ross
April Ross, a beach volleyball star from the United States She is one of a small group of women who have won medals in multiple Olympics. She is set to compete in Tokyo to compete for her third Olympic medal with Alix Klineman who is a first-time Olympian. Ross's aim is to get her first Olympic Gold. It may well be that it is her last chance, at 39 years old. However, she's convinced that top prizes can be achieved. Ross stated to NBC Boston that if they perform at their very best, or even a good game her team can win a gold medal. So I'm going to take a little bit of luck too. Ross was a Californian born in Costa Mesa, California in 1982. Her family lived in the area with her father, mother and sister. Her athletic career was continued by Newport Harbor High School where she played in a variety of sports. She played basketball and ran the track as well as her volleyball skills in the indoors as a pre-collegiate athlete. When she played in the final sport, she clearly stood out. According to her bio, she played a middle blocker and outside hitter on the volleyball court during her senior year at high school. She was named one of the Gatorade National Circle of Champions Player of the Year in 1999 due to her accomplishments. Also, in 2000 she was awarded the Orange County Athlete of the year for volleyball. Ross and Klineman are continuing to play from 2017. However, Ross was a major player on the beach volleyball circuit prior to the pair. She has won major tournaments twice with different partners. The other has become an icon of the world of volleyball. From 2007 until 2013, she was a team with Jennifer Kessy who more recently was Klineman's coach. Ross, Kessy's fellow teammate who was the winner of the world championship alongside Kessy in 2009 was also an important player on the international stage. The duo were awarded silver medals at the London Olympic Games. Misty May, Kerri Walsh and Kerri Jennings were the team to beat out for gold. Ross Walsh was Walsh Jennings new partner after May-Treanor's retirement. They both won bronze in beach volleyball at the Rio Olympics in the year 2016. Ross was a college player for USC Trojans before starting her professional career. She was a player in high school, as well as years prior to hitting the beaches as a professional. This was an impressive performance for Ross during her time at the college level. In her first year at the school, 2000 saw her earn the Pac-10 as well as NCAA Freshman's of Year awards and be an All-American. The Trojans were also able to reach the Final Four with her help. Her heart was broken through a tragedy in her life during her sophomore year. However, she went on to be an All-American in her second year. The two years following her she led the Trojans up to the summit and clinched consecutive national championships. Her individual achievements have cemented her status as a legend in volleyball. Ross was awarded the Honda Sports Award 2003-04 for the top female NCAA player. Ross majored in international relations at USC. Sadly, Ross mom Margie was not able to witness her daughter ascend to the very top of beach volleyball fame. Ross's mother died of breast cancer while she was a sophomore in USC.
